Changing Your CPanel Password

You can easily change your CPanel (control panel) password at any time yourself. This is especially useful if you have forgotten your password or you want to periodically change it, which is recommended.

To change a password…

Firstly, go to the Chillidog Hosting website. Log into your billing area, by clicking on the Billing link, under the Support menu. Enter your email address and password used for your billing account (not to be confused with your username and password for CPanel).

Under the Services menu at the top, click My Services. You will then be taken to the Products and Services page, as pictured below.

My Products and Services

Click on the View Details button, next to your hosting package. On the next screen, click on the Change Password tab shown. Note that you cannot change your username (this will always remain the same) but you can change your password.

Change password

Type your new password in the box shown. Type the password a second time, to confirm it is correct. Always use a very strong password. Then click on the blue Save Changes button. Logout of your billing area when done.

Tips for choosing a strong password

It is recommended that you always choose a very strong password, so that someone else cannot easily gain access to your control panel, either by guessing your password or through brute force. It is best to follow these simple tips for creating strong passwords:

  • Use a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Mix numbers and a few special characters into your password
  • Use random names, dates, numbers or special things to create a more memorable password
  • Avoid common phrases like password, admin, default or root in your password

Do not use the same password that you use for other products or services. If another website is compromised, a would-be hacker would be able to easily gain access to your hosting account and cause a lot of damage. It's recommended that you change your password at least once a year. Change it immediately if you suspect suspicious activity or if it was used from a machine that was compromised or stolen. Do not share your password with others.
