Enter the details of the new email account, like your first name, last name, the username for the new email address and your password. If you prefer, you can also change the size of the mailbox to something else. Click on the Save button when done.

Note: It may sometimes take several minutes before the new mailbox is setup and active. This delay is to allow the server to update and the new settings to propagate.

At this point in time, you will be able to login to the email account via webmail to access your emails, like in the picture shown below.

Step 10

Login to your cPanel (control panel) by navigating to http://example.com/cpanel (where 'example.com') is the name or your domain or by using the control panel link in your billing area. Once logged into cPanel, in the Mail section, click on the MX Entry button shown. From the Domain option menu, choose the domain name which this Chillimail account is tied to. In the Add New Record section, type '10' in the Priority box, and 'mx1.emailsrvr.com' in the Destination box, as pictured below.

Chillimail MX records

Click the Add New Record button when done. It may take a few minutes to add the new record. Repeat the same steps again, this time setting the Priority to '20' and the Destination to 'mx2.emailsrvr.com'. At the end, you should have two new MX records like this:

Priority Destination
10 mx1.emailsrvr.com
20 mx2.emailsrvr.com

MX records are used to ensure emails are correctly routed to the correct location. Having multiple destinations available and listed in priority improves reliability, by providing an alternative destination in instances when the first one is not working correctly.

The next section of the knowledgebase article will explain how you can receive emails directly to your preferred email software.

Configuring email software to handle Chillidog email

Although you can use the webmail service to login and fetch your emails via the Chillidog website, most people find it more convenient to use their own email software. There is a very wide variety of email software available, ranging from apps included with your computer or handheld device, to free or opensource email applications, and paid or commercial email software. We are unable to provide specific setup instructions for each, but this section will provide general setup information on some of the more popular or useful email clients. The exact terminology used to describe settings can vary between each application, so the table below might help you.

General setup details

Setting Value
Name / Account The name you want shown as the 'from' on emails
Description Normally an optional name to identify your email account
Email address Your full email address, like email@example.com
Password The password you setup for your new email account
Account / Mailbox type IMAP
Authentication type Password
Incoming mail server / host secure.emailsrvr.com
Incoming username Your full email address, like email@example.com
Incoming password The password you setup for your new email account
Outgoing mail server / host secure.emailsrvr.com
Outgoing username Your full email address, like email@example.com
Outgoing password The password you setup for your new email account

If your email software gives you the option to use authentication, always enable this and provide your username and password. It's also recommended that the outgoing email server is set to only use secure.emailsrvr.com and none others which you might already have setup previously for other email accounts.

In your email software, you will typically have settings or preferences to handle other aspects of your email, like filters, tags, spam or junk mail and email signatures. Typically the documentation provided with your email software will explain these other aspects.
