Thumbnail Pile

Thumbnail Pile theme for WeaverPix

Introduction

What the Thumbnail Pile theme does is to take a collection of images and sort them into groups, based on the title you give each image. These groups of images are displayed in the form of a thumbnail pile (hence the name). Each pile displays the group name and the number of images within that group. Clicking on a thumbnail pile opens the group and displays all the images within that group. Captions are displayed on hover, and you can also set the thumbnail images to open links when clicked or tapped. An image can belong to more than one group, just enter commas in the title to split an image between two or more groups.

This WeaverPix theme uses the latest web technologies, including jQuery Javascript, HTML5 and CSS3. Thumbnail Pile is responsive and the number of columns displayed adjusts based on the screen width and width of the thumbnail images.

Style settings are included, letting you adjust the thumbnail sizing, border width, border color and several color options. Potentially you could write your own custom CSS code to change other aspects, if you wanted. On web browsers without Javascript support, the thumbnails are rendered in the form of a basic stack.

CSS animations and transitions only work in newer browsers that support them. Special effect degrade gracefully in older web browsers. This WeaverPix theme makes use of HTML5 code, and therefore will require a RapidWeaver theme with an HTML5 doctype.

Like the original plugin this WeaverPix theme is based on, the available space for image captions is limited. If you find that your captions are becoming cropped, you should either reduce the amount of caption content you provide with each image, or increase the size of the thumbnail images.
