Some users have utilized Google's fetch operations to automatically have their cPanel email retrieved and moved to their Gmail app/inbox. The reason for doing that is that it protected user's server reputation by NOT forwarding spam emails automatically to Gmail which would cause the user's domain to be categorized as a creator of spam (and possibly blocked). It can damage server reputation and that's never a good thing.
Solutions include:
Enable and tune SpamAssassin in cPanel
SpamAssassin is a consumer grade spam catcher included in your account via cPanel.
1.In cPanel, open Email → Spam Filters.
2.Turn SpamAssassin ON if it is not already.
3.Leave Spam Threshold Score at default (5) to start; lower numbers are stricter.
4.Turn on Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box) or use the option your host exposes to prevent spam from being forwarded (some skins phrase this differently but it is under Spam Filters).
Effect: messages that score as spam get tagged (and optionally diverted) before any forwarder runs.
Use filters so spam is not forwarded
If your host supports the “Do not forward mail marked as spam” toggle inside Spam Filters, enable it and you are done here.
If not, use Global Email Filters:
1.In cPanel, go to Email → Global Email Filters.
2.Add a new filter, for example:
•Rule: Spam Status → begins with → Yes
•Action: Discard Message (or Deliver to Folder → choose Junk/Spam).
3.Save the filter and place it above any “Forward to address” logic if your host’s UI has ordering.
Now messages that SpamAssassin marks as spam are never forwarded; only mail with Spam Status: No proceeds to Gmail.

Keep the cPanel → Gmail forwarder
1.In Email → Forwarders, keep or create the forwarder from you@domain to your Gmail address.
2.Do not create any second forwarder that bypasses the filters; everything should flow: Incoming mail → SpamAssassin → Global Filters → Forwarder → Gmail .
Gmail will still do its own classification, so some spam that slips past cPanel should land in the Gmail Spam folder rather than your Inbox.
